چکیده

eGIFT (Extracting Gene Information From Text) is an intelligent system which is intended to aid scientists in surveying literature relevant to genes of interest. From a gene specific set of abstracts retrieved from PubMed, eGIFT determines the most important terms associated with the given gene. Annotators using eGIFT can quickly find articles describing gene functions and individuals scientists surveying the results of highthroughput experiments can quickly extract information important to their hits.

Biomedical Ontologies and Text Mining for Biomedicine and Healthcare: A Survey

In this survey paper, we discuss biomedical ontologies and major text mining techniques applied to biomedicine and healthcare. Biomedical ontologies such as UMLS are currently being adopted in text mining approaches because they provide domain knowledge for text mining approaches. In addition, biomedical ontologies enable us to resolve many linguistic problems when text mining approaches handle...

Knowledge Management for Biomedical Literature: the Function of Text-mining Technologies in Life-science Research

Efficient information retrieval and extraction is a major challenge in life-science research. The Knowledge Management (KM) for biomedical literature aims to establish an environment, utilizing information technologies, to facilitate better acquisition, generation, codification, and transfer of knowledge. Knowledge Discovery in Text (KDT) is one of the goals in KM, so as to find hidden informat...

Design of a Standoff Object-Oriented Markup Language (sooml) for Annotating Biomedical Literature

With the rapid growth of electronically available scientific literature, text mining is attracting increasing attention. While numerous algorithms, tools, and systems have been developed for extracting information from text, little effort has been focused on how to mark up the information. We present the design of a standoff, object-oriented markup language (called SOOML), which is simple, expr...

GIS: a biomedical text-mining system for gene information discovery

UNLABELLED We present a biomedical text-mining system focused on four types of gene-related information: biological functions, associated diseases, related genes and gene-gene relations. The aim of this system is to provide researchers an easy-to-use bio-information service that will rapidly survey the rapidly burgeoning biomedical literature. A Tree Kernel-Based Method for Protein-Protein Interaction Mining from Biomedical Literature

As genomic research advances, the knowledge discovery from a large collection of scientific papers becomes more important for efficient biological and biomedical research. Even though current databases continue to update new protein-protein interactions, valuable information still remains in biomedical literature. Thus data mining techniques are required to extract the information. In this pape...
